Description
Listening is an essential skill for today’s students and tomorrow’s workers. But in an era of short attention spans and technology-driven learning, listening attentively can be a challenge for kids to learn and teachers to teach. Explore easy-to-use activities & lessons.

Learning Outcome #1
This session’s objective is to engage in exploring the connection between reading and listening comprehension. At the end of my session, participants will be able to leave with new and innovative strategies and tools to connect their students with audio content. Teaching with auditory stories has the ability to spark memories, engage the senses, and is great for building cross-cultural communication and empathy.

Learning Outcome #2
Another objective is to role model a range of collaborative and engaging discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led). At the end of my session, participants will be able to teach a listening lesson right away; one that entails active listening and engaging discussions.

Standards
This session is aligned to the CCSS ELA Literacy Speaking & Listening Standards 2 & 3. Real-world podcasts provide engaging, authentic content for all learners, and motivate them to engage in discussions and opinion sharing with other students.
