Description
In this session, learn practical approaches to incorporate new digital citizenship tools from Common Sense into students’ digital citizenship practice.Then, get an articulation of the impact, challenges and strategies employed by San Francisco Unified School District to leveraged KQED resources to deepen media literacy practices.

Learning Outcome #1
Participants will identify key components needed for large scale implementation of media literacy with examples from a wide variety of districts’ professional learning supports and classroom implementation approaches.

Learning Outcome #2
Participants will learn strategies for integration of high quality free content from Common Sense and KQED to support online civic engagement and get examples of proven implementation approaches.

Standards
ISTE Teacher Standards 3b, 3c:Establish a learning culture that promotes curiosity and critical examination of online resources and fosters digital literacy and media fluency. Mentor students in safe, legal and ethical practices with digital tools and the protection of intellectual rights and property.
