Description
Learn how coding can foster critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration. Come prepared to set up your class at CODE.org and do a little coding yourself. It’s a great tool for technology buddies. 5th grade student mentors will be available to assist you.

Learning Outcome #1
At the end of my session, participants will have a better understanding of what coding is and how students can develop the 4Cs (communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity) through programming. They will be able to navigate through the Code.org website and determine which level of programming is best suited for their students (ages and abilities).

Learning Outcome #2
At the end of my session, participants will be ready to implement Code.org courses with their students. They will participate in an unplugged activity, complete several lessons of a course of their choice, experience paired-programming, and set up their class and be ready to launch it with students when they return to their classroom.

Each lesson addresses multiple standards: (Sample from Course A Lesson1): Common Core English Language Arts Standards RL - Reading Literature SL - Speaking & Listening Common Core Math Standards G - Geometry MD - Measurement And Data MP - Math Practices CSTA K-12 Computer Science Standards AP - Algorithms & Programming Next Generation Science Standards ETS - Engineering in the Sciences
