Explore how ELD standards can support NGSS by walking through a model 3rd grade lesson. This model lesson includes unpacking some ELD standards to guide opportunities for integrated and designated ELD. The lesson demonstrates how ELD standards can lead to meaningful scaffolds (i.e. sentence frames).

Learning Outcome #1
Participants will see how ELD standards play a role in supporting NGSS. The lesson designing process will be modeled to show how ELD standards are unpacked to support the language production needed for an NGSS performance expectation. The unpacked ELD standards also play a role in integrated ELD and designated ELD.

Learning Outcome #2
Participants will see student examples (videos and written work) from the model 3rd grade NGSS/ELD lesson. They will hear how the lesson was adjusted for students with disabilities and launched in an inclusive learning environment.

NGSS Standard: 3-PS2-3 Ask Questions to determine cause and effect relationship of electric or magnetic interactions between two objects not in contact with each other. ELD Standards: PI.3.9 PI.3.5 PII.3.6
