Description
Let’s speak the students’ language using Snapchat to share excerpts of a book while annotating with #BookSnaps. This fascinating strategy engages both hemispheres of the brain and increases learning retention. Join this workshop session to explore how students AND staff create BookSnap reflections to make their thinking visible.

Learning Outcome #1
Participants will... 1) Explore how using Snapchat to create #BookSnaps improves reading comprehension 2.) Connect students with a common language to create a digital visualization via Bitmojis and emojis 3) Discover the Neuroscience behind #BookSnaps as it relates to long-term memory

Learning Outcome #2
Participants will create #BookSnaps and explore how students might use them to show their understanding of character conflict and resolution, figurative language, and ultimately providing them an outlet to share their personal connections to the text.

Standards
ISTE Digital Citizen: 2b We will explore the Snapchat app and discuss the digital citizenship and creative communication that is fostered by using social media to increase reading comprehension. Creative Communicator: 6a Each participant will create #BookSnaps with the same book excerpt, but will recognize the unique differences of their digital visual representation.
